The entire Department is always ready to respond to calls for service, as well as taking proactive steps to keep individuals and property safe. Public Safety works closely with all other University departments to help provide the very best living and learning environment possible. The mission of the Public Safety Department is to provide a safe secure environment that supports the delivery of quality academics at the University of Rhode Island.
The University is fortunate to have a highly professional organization consisting of the following independent but coordinated teams:
University Police & Security - Fully Sworn State Certified Police Officers, Uniformed Non-Sworn Officers, and Resident Hall Security Officers
Parking & Transportation Services - Permit Sales, Planning and Enforcement
Environmental Health & Safety - Industrial Hygiene, Hazmat, Chemical, Radiological, etc.
Fire & Life Safety - Inspection and Code Compliance & Alarm Services
Emergency Management - Provides planning and liaison with State and Federal Emergency Responders
Communications Center - Dispatchers who monitor a wide array of radio, video and alarm systems
Administration - Consists of the Director, fiscal services, clerical support and technical services.
