Outreach
Faculty and Students actively participate in outreach activities. A few are highlighted here.
FRIENDS WAY
Professor Carolyn Hames is actively involved in FRIENDS WAY in Rhode Island. The organization serves children, ages 3-19, who are in need of support after the death of a loved one. Children and their families are aided in regaining some control of the their worlds after the loss of their loved one. FRIENDS WAY received the 2004 Community Impact Award in the Youth Division. THE RHODE ISLAND FREE CLINIC
The Rhode Island Free Clinic is the only clinic in the state dedicated entirely to providing free care to the uninsured. The clinic serves as an educational site for nursing, medical and pharmacy students.
CROSSROADS- formerly Travelers Aid
Faculty and students participate in Primary Care Clinics on a regular basis. These services are for the Homeless population of Rhode Island and provide much needed health care to this needy population.
THE THANATOLOGY COMMITTEE
The College of Nursing Thanatology Committee along with the Interdiscipinary Thanatology Group of URI annually sponsor the Hospice Foundation of America's National Bereavement Teleconference. "Pain Management at the End of Life" will be broadcast Wednesday, April 5, 2006, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT. URI - Narragansett Bay Campus Coastal Institute Auditorium
