Welcome to the College of Nursing at the University of Rhode Island! Since its establishment 25 years ago, graduates of our Masters and Doctor of Philosophy programs have become leaders in advanced clinical practice, academic, research and administrative positions. The College of Nursing Master of Science prepares professional nurses to assume leadership roles in a variety of settings. The curriculum provides advanced preparation in primary health care nursing (family nurse practitioner, gerontological nurse practitioner), psychiatric-mental health nursing, child-adolescent psychiatric-mental health nursing, gerontological nursing, nursing education, nursing administration, and clinical nurse leader.
Post Masters Certificate Options are offered in Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health, Education, and Gerontological Clinical Specialist.
The Doctor of Philosophy program in nursing prepare nurse scholars and researchers capable of advancing nursing knowledge through the development and testing of nursing theory and the conduct of research in clinical practice. The program cultivates a sense of inquiry and stimulates collaborative relationships with professional colleagues both in nursing and other disciplines.
The programs are designed to accommodate both full- and part-time graduate students. Students may begin their studies either in the fall or spring semester.
