The URI center for Midwifery @ Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island was established in 1999.  It is a model collaboration between a public university and a community teaching hospital.  The center serves as a setting for full scope midwifery services for women of Rhode Island, an educational base for future midwives and a backdrop for research on the care midwives provide and the outcomes they achieve.  The center is dedicated to assisting women achieve safe, satisfying, and supported births and gynecologic care.  Because it is partnered with Memorial Hospital, women and their families have excellent access to full scope primary care services.  For more information please feel free to call the centers director, Dr. Judy Mercer at 401-874-5327 or email her at jmercer@uri.edu.
