Instructional Technology and Media Services in 217 Chafee provides computing, networking, and audiovisual technology support for instruction in teaching and learning facilities. This includes:

Multimedia Support
Self-service, media development facilities with authoring software and peripheral equipment for conversion of media into digital format, instructional material development, interactive media, and asynchronous learning technologies.

 

WebCT
WebCT is a secure, password-protected, Web-based Course Tools system that can be used anytime, anywhere. It has built-in tools such as course material publishing, syllabus, discussion board, chat, electronic assignment dropbox, quiz, and gradebook that facilitate teaching and learning in a more dynamic fashion. URI has used WebCT since 1998 to provide a Web-based learning environment. Some faculty use WebCT to supplement traditional teaching while others use WebCT to teach courses completely online with only minimal or no face-to-face meetings.


Videoconference Facilities
Point-to-point or point-to-multipoint videoconferencing.

 

Podcasting
Delivering media in new millennium manner, allowing students to easily to subscribe to audio, video, and PDF files to be delivered automatically to their personal computers and Personal Media Players. Support for creating and delivering media in podcast form.

Multimedia, video, and television services

Instructional Support
Planning for technology-enhanced delivery, classroom management software, and media-equipped and electronic classrooms

Language Learning Resource Center
Audio, video, and software materials for modern language classes available for lab use only, and instructional support equipment for faculty checkout
