The Department of Communication Studies is one of six academic units that comprise The Harrington School of Communication and Media in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Rhode Island.
We are one of the most popular majors at URI due to the individualized attention and mentoring we provide our undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the excellent placements our alumni receive across a variety of industries and prestigious graduate and professional programs. Since we envision our students to be the leaders of tomorrow, we work hard to capitalize on their intellectual potential to ensure that they succeed in whatever they choose to do.
With more than 800 undergraduate majors, a large cadre of exceptional graduate students, 30 tenure-track and full-time faculty members - many of whom are award-winning scholars and teachers - and more than 150 attractive course offerings each semester, the Department of Communication Studies is an intellectually and culturally diverse and vibrant community, made up of people who are committed to exploring the many facets of human communication from historical, cultural, philosophical, socio-political, and social-scientific points of view.
